Everyone’s heard of ‘Gateway beers’ as a descriptor for those beers that first open a drinker’s eyes to the world of good beer and set them on the path to greater discoveries.
But then there’s also a term needed to describe those ‘palate-altering, game-changing, mind-blowing’ beers that take you off the path and to a higher plane of beery existence.
These aren’t your ordinary everyday beers, these are the beers that truly knock your socks off, expand your beer consciousness, and take you back to your early days of new tastes and more visceral experiences.
What I’m saying is that Marijuana is to LSD, as Little Creatures Pale Ale is to Russian River’s Supplication. Or something like that.
Here are some of the beers that, at the time, were palate-altering, game-changing, mind-blowing beers in my beer journey.

- Yeastie Boys’ Gunnamatta Tea-Leafed IPA
